The principles guiding our dental practice at Love Smile are deeply rooted in history and personal dedication. These principles, which shape our approach to patient care, stem from the beliefs of Dr. Irving Fishman, the founder of our practice, who began his career seventy-two years ago in 1938.
Dr. Irving Fishman’s Legacy
Dr. Irving Fishman started his dental career at Madison and Kedzie Avenues on the West Side of Chicago, just four miles from the Chicago Loop. His practice was in a small office building that also housed the legendary “Little Jack’s Restaurant,” famous for its homemade cheesecake. Born in 1915 in a modest flat on Sawyer Avenue, Dr. Fishman was raised by Romanian immigrant parents who left Europe seeking opportunities unavailable in their homeland. Growing up in a culturally diverse neighborhood, he learned the value of hard work, dedication, and education.
The Great Depression shaped Dr. Fishman’s early years, emphasizing the importance of diligence, integrity, and hope. His parents’ sacrifices and guidance instilled in him a strong work ethic. Dr. Fishman balanced his professional and personal interests, enjoying music and craftsmanship, which he inherited from his father. These experiences led him to a career in dentistry, where he practiced with dedication, skill, and a deep commitment to patient care.
